Good news for young fans of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum!
The five-star, highly rated outdoor museum in west Tucson just opened a brand new air-conditioned space for children. Named the Packrat Playhouse, the almost-4,000 square foot space is designed for ages 0-12.
Kids can slide down a gila monster's tail, climb through prickly pear cactus pads, slither through an oversized rattlesnake, explore secret tunnels, discover hidden objects, scramble in giant rope netting, and much more!
The desert-inspired, Tucson-themed playhouse is open daily between 10am and 4pm and is included with paid admission (free for members!).
Visiting with a baby? Bathrooms, with changing tables, are available in the playhouse. While there isn't a designated nursing room or mother's lounge at the museum, there are benches/seats in the playhouse where you are welcome to feed your baby.
Hungry after all that playing? Food & drinks are available for purchase and there are tables inside the playhouse so you can enjoy your snacks in an air-conditioned environment. On the menu? Sandwiches, trail mix, cookies, chips, candy, ice cream, fruit, soft drinks, juice, coffee, and canned water (no plastic!). Outside food is not permitted on museum grounds.
Heading out? You can stop to buy a souvenir or a sweet treat in the gift shop before driving home!
The Packrat Playhouse can also be rented out for birthday parties.
