True Concord presents the perfect culmination of our 25-26 season, The American Dream, with music from two iconic sources: West Side Story & The Great American Songbook.
Based on Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is one of the great classics of the 20th century. Conceived by Jerome Robbins with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this work takes the classic tale into a relatable modern American context, changing the landscape of American musicals. Bernstein’s evocative style brings to life the story of love in the face of division.
AND swing to The Great American Songbook, the American pop music of the 1920’s to 50’s, with sounds and songs that reflect who we were and where we came from. When you hear these songs, you know them! This is the music that is in our cultural DNA.
