Interested in becoming a lifeguard? Pima County offers an in-depth Junior Lifeguard Program designed to prepare kids between the ages of 11 to 15 to become future lifeguards. The Junior Lifeguard Program does not certify participants in first aid, CPR or automated external defibrillator (AED) or as a lifeguard, but will introduce the participants to:
The skills needed to take a Lifeguarding course
Communication and decision-making skills
The basic responsibilities of a lifeguard
The basic knowledge and skills required to be a lifeguard
The skills necessary to assist with swim lesson instruction
There will also be opportunities for the students to work alongside lifeguards and swim instructors, assisting with swim lessons or helping out at a Pima County swim meet. To ensure each student gets the most out of the program, each of the Parks and Recreation pools offering the program will be limiting participation to just 10 students per session.
Cost
$35 for the entire program. This fee includes a Pima County Junior Lifeguard t-shirt and Junior Lifeguard certificate at successful completion of the 3-week session.
Session
June 8 - 25, 2026, Monday-Thursday

Pre-requisites:
Must be 11 years old by June 8, 2026.
Must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
Must be able to tread water in the deep end of the pool for 1 minute.
