Insect Day at Reid Park Zoo

June 27, 2026 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Free With Paid Admission

Insect Week is a global celebration dedicated to raising awareness, inspiring action, and cultivating appreciation for the world’s insects.

Learn what makes a bug a bug and how we can help protect these little creatures through animal encounters, Nature Play, crafts, activities, a Zoo-wide BioBlitz, and partner organizations like Xerces Society and Pima County Environmental Educators.

Who is Xerces Society?

They are an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.

Who are Pima County Environmental Educators?

They are a specialized group within Pima County’s Conservation Lands and Resources (CLR) Department focused on creating opportunities for community-led access to the outdoors and nature-based learning. Their goal is to protect and preserve the natural environment and cultural legacy of Pima County.

What is Nature Play?

This is an unstructured, play-based learning opportunity to connect children and their care-takers to nature and animals.

What is a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is an event at which a group of volunteers get together to find and identify as many different native plants and animals as possible in a given area.

Activities will take place at the Zoo’s pollinator garden 8 am – 11 am.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Identification skills are not necessary.

This event is free with paid Zoo admission. Advance registration is not required.
