Pima Animal Care Center will offer free adoptions, family fun, food trucks, and more at its annual “Dog Days of Summer” adoption event this Saturday, July 12.
All pets – dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies – will be free to adopt during the event, which will take place at the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road. PACC is also offering extended hours, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., to give folks more time to find their new best friend.
In addition to all-day free adoptions, the shelter will host special festivities from 1 to 5 p.m. including kids’ games, activities, and raffles for gift cards donated from local businesses including Baja Café, Beyond Bread, Bookman’s, and Antigone Books. Food trucks Biggie Boy BBQ and Cody Coyote Kettle Corn will also be on site selling refreshments.
Summer is a challenging time for animal shelters. Intakes rise due to July 4 runaways as well as puppy and kitten season while adoptions and fosters slow as folks take vacations and students and snowbirds leave for the summer. PACC leadership hopes the event will change that trend and help find much-needed homes for the hundreds of pets in need.
All pets adopted from PACC are microchipped, spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and now have lifelong access to low-cost care through the newly opened Friends Pet Clinic. In addition, during the Dog Days event, all adopted dogs will go home with a dog life jacket for swimming and tennis balls and all adopted cats will receive a new blanket (as supplies last).
A $20 licensing fee may apply for adult dogs residing in Pima County.
