Spice Wars: How Tiny Seeds Changed the World at Joyner-Green Valley Library

October 1, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

An entertaining exploration of how spices shaped global exploration, trade, cuisine, medicine, and world history.

What do your kitchen cabinet and the rise and fall of empires have in common? More than you might think—and far more drama than you’d expect from something you sprinkle on oatmeal. In this lively and entertaining 45-minute talk, Spice Wars: How Tiny Seeds Changed the World, we uncover how five everyday spices—pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves—once sparked global trade, fierce rivalries, and a few truly questionable life choices by ambitious explorers.

Entry tickets will be available starting at 12:00pm on October 1st at the Service Desk.
