On June 21st, the Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market will provide a variety of resources for people who are interested in solar cooking. Several models of solar ovens will be displayed by people who have built or bought their own, and their owners will be on-hand to demonstrate how to use them.
This is a great opportunity for community members to learn how to harness one of the region’s greatest sources of energy to cook anything from baked goods to vegetables to meat. Solar cooking is clean, inexpensive, saves energy, and does not heat up the kitchen on hot summer days.
Market shoppers can also expect to find locally-grown summer produce including tomatoes, garlic, squash, melons, chilies, and much more. Honey, fresh eggs, goat cheese, free-range meat, baked goods, and garden plants will also be available.
